Second Speaker: Asst. Lecturer. Mr. Kastro Salim Akram – Faculty of Law at Tishk International University

This workshop consisted of two sessions. During the first session, Mr. Suren Akram Hamanajm talked about the causes and effects of individual addiction to social networks. He divided the causes of the individual’s addiction to social networks and attributed them to several reasons, such as social and cultural causes, unemployment, and other reasons, and discussed the impact of the individual’s addiction to social networks. The presenter explained how the impact is significant and affects individuals in several ways. Like the social aspects, individuals become isolated from society, economically and culturally, and this has significant negative effects. In the end, Mr. Suren Akram Hamanajm suggested that this phenomenon should be reduced through the intervention of the public authority, as well as spreading awareness through the education of parents and their supervision of their children, and the focus of the Ministries of Education to limit this phenomenon.

The second session covered Legislative Confrontation of Electronic Crimes, in which the speaker discussed the role of the law in combating cyber crimes that occur using social networking sites or communication devices. He has highlighted the positions of both the Iraqi Criminal Legislator and the Kurdistan Criminal Legislator by presenting the articles related to these crimes in the Penal Code Iraqi No. (111) for the year 1969 as amended, and Law No. 6 for the year 2008 to prevent misuse of telecommunications equipment.

To conclude, Asst. Lecturer. Mr. Kastro Salim Akram came up with several proposals through which we can put an end to this phenomenon:

1- Repeal of Law No. 6 of 2008 on preventing the misuse of telecommunications equipment.

2- Activating articles related to these crimes in the Iraqi Penal Code (403 and 404).

After the speakers finished, a Q&A session was held in which participants had the opportunity to ask questions to the speakers and inquire about the subjects explained. The topics were further discussed and analyzed, and the speakers actively and adequately answered the questions directed y the audience.

The Faculty of Law at Tishk International University extends its sincere appreciation and gratitude to the workshop moderator and the speakers for their outstanding contributions.
