The Faculty of Law at Tishk International University organized a trip to Sulaymaniyah for the second grade students.

From its foundation Sulaymaniyah was always a center of great poets, writers, historians, politicians, scholars and singers, such as Nali, Mahwi and Pirmerd The modern city of Sulaymaniyah was founded in 1784 by the Kurdish princeIbrahim Pasha Baban, who named it after his father Sulaiman Pasha. Sulaymaniyah was the capital of the historic principality of Baban from 1784 to 1850.

There are a few museums, two of which should not be missed. The first, and most disturbing one, is Amna Suraka, the War Crimes Museum, based in the building with same name, used by Saddam Hussein to torture Kurds suspected of being a militant.

The other one, more on the lighter side, is Slemani Museum, with an exhibition of archaeological artefacts, some dating back to 100,000 years. This is Iraq’s most important museum at the moment, as Iraq National Museum in Baghdad is currently closed. Entrance is free in both museums.

The trip took place on the 22nd of October 2021, and was supervised by Mr. Abdullah Shakhawan Head of Extracurricular activities programs of Law Faculty. Students visited several places, including the Bazaar, Gwezha Mountain, and the Museum of Sulaymaniyah. The trip was organized for two days, aiming to familiarize students with the valuable culture of the city and enjoy its beautiful nature.
