On April 15, 2025, the Faculty of Law at Tishk International University (TIU) hosted a seminar titled, “The Rights of the Accused in Criminal Proceedings.” The seminar was presented by Retired Judge Rzgar Muhammed.

The seminar was held in Hall 401 and was attended by Asst. Prof. Dr. Idris Balisani, Head of the Board of Trustees, Asst. Prof. Dr. Hussien Balisani, Dean of Faculty, Sabah Qasim, Head of the Department, and other staff members.

The seminar focused on the legal and constitutional guarantees afforded to the accused during investigation and trial. Judge Muhammed emphasized the importance of balancing the rights of the accused with the needs of justice and discussed the extent to which criminal procedures in Iraq adhere to international human rights standards, with a focus on practical applications in the Kurdistan Region courts. The seminar concluded with a rich academic discussion, where participants engaged with questions and contributions that demonstrated a clear interest in the topic and its legal depth.
