On December 11, 2024, the Law and International Relations and Diplomacy Departments at Tishk International University, in collaboration with the Stop Organization, organized a national workshop titled: “Assessing the KRG Anti-Corruption Strategy Plan for 2021-2025.”
The workshop aimed to educate participants about the dangers of corruption and the Kurdistan Regional Government’s efforts to combat it through its strategic anti-corruption plan. Mr. Badr Mohamad Taher served as the moderator and stated that the workshop was organized to celebrate this year’s International Anti-Corruption Day, aligning with SDG 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions.
The workshop featured two distinguished speakers:
- Asst. Prof. Dr. Adnan Abdullah Rashid, Director General of the Office of Prevention and Transparency of the Board of Corruption, Kurdistan Regional Government.
- Mr. Farman Rashad Aziz, Board Coordinator of Stop Monitoring and Development and a member of the Secretariat of the Iraqi Corruption System – Transparency International.
Dr. Adnan Abdullah Rashid explained the KRG Anti-Corruption Strategy Plan for 2021-2025 and its positive impact on the socio-economic development of the Kurdistan Region. Mr. Farman Rashad Aziz then discussed the efforts and contributions of the Stop Organization in the fight against corruption.
The workshop was attended by approximately 35 participants, including university staff, students, and policymakers. It helped attendees understand the causes and effects of corruption on society and the need to eradicate it.
Recommendations from the workshop included:
- Strengthening institutions responsible for combating corruption.
- Strengthening the legal framework for fighting corruption.
- Educating the public about the dangers of corruption.
- Implementing severe punishment for perpetrators of corrupt acts.
- Ensuring strict observance of the Rule of Law.
Certificates of appreciation were issued to the speakers and moderator by Prof. Dr. Huseyin Mohammed Balisani, Dean of the Faculty of Law, and Dr. Mohammad Salih Mustafa, Head of the International Relations and Diplomacy Department.
