An exciting trip to the Legislative Authority In Erbil

The Faculty of Law at Tishk International University organized a visit to the Legislative Authority in Erbil on November 14th, 2021. Within the framework of scientific activities in the faculty, 30 fourth-grade students participated in this trip, which was conducted under the supervision and cooperation of Mr. Mohammed Abdulkareem, Lecturer at Faculty of Law, and Mr. Abdullah Shakhawan Research Assistant.

This visit comprised of two sessions:

1st session: Introducing and discussing the function and operations of each department and sector, such as the library, which plays a fundamental role within the parliament and ensures that everyone is part in the cultural life of our region. The library holds Law and Political books that can be accessed for free by anyone in the parliament.

The Vice President of the Parliament’s Office: Dr. Hemn Hawrami, warmly welcomed the staff and students of TIU and expressed how pleased he was with the visit. He briefly spoke about his job and duties and the importance of his role to maintain the balance between the people and government of this region. The team invited him to conduct a seminar for the students of the Faculty of Law at Tishk International University. Dr. Hemn acknowledged the benefit of a seminar for law students and promised to visit in the nearest possible future.

Further to this, a meeting was conducted with the Consultant of the President of Parliament, Dr. Briar Sherko to discuss the main roles of the parliament and its contributions to the constitution of laws. D. Briar explained that the Parliament is a representation of the electorate, and its main responsibilities include overseeing the government via hearings and inquiries.

2nd session: Law students met with a Member of Parliament Representative of one of the parties. He explained his role and rights, and abilities within the statehouse and the voting process.

The purpose of this visit was to familiarize students with the responsibilities and roles of the parliament. The Faculty of Law will continue to organize and arrange scientific trips to improve the Department’s activity and students’ knowledge in the context of Law.
