National Workshop: Suicide Between Islamic Prohibition and Criminalization Under the Law.

On September 16, 2026, a scientific workshop was held at the Faculty of Law at Tishk International University entitled “Suicide Between Islamic Prohibition and Criminalization Under the Law.” The workshop was delivered by Dr. Khalid Jalal and Dr. Kastro Salem, and it was moderated by Mrs. Bayar Imad

  • The Islamic Perspective: The first session was led by Dr. Khalid Jalal, who explored the strict prohibition of suicide within the Islamic faith. He detailed the theological foundations that emphasize the absolute sanctity of human life, outlining how religious teachings view life as a divine trust and offer spiritual frameworks for navigating profound despair.

  • The Legal Perspective: Dr. Kastro Salem delivered the second session, shifting the academic focus to the secular legal framework. He provided an in-depth analysis of how suicide and related actions (such as incitement or assisted suicide) are addressed under Iraqi Criminal Law. Dr. Salem emphasized the legislative intent behind these laws, highlighting the state’s legal mechanisms for protecting the right to life and maintaining social order.

The workshop was attended by Dean Prof.Dr.Rozhan Dizayee , Head of Department Dr.Sabah Qasim, faculty members and  students of the Faculty of Law and witnessed active engagement, as numerous questions and interventions were raised, contributing to the enrichment of the academic discussion.
