Seminar: The Role of the Lawyer in Drafting the Statement of Claim between Theory and Practice.

In continuation of academic activities, on Tuesday, 6 January 2026, Attorney Mohammed Emad Barzani delivered an academic seminar entitled “The Role of the Lawyer in Drafting the Statement of Claim between Theory and Practice” to fifth-grade students of the Faculty of Law.

The seminar addressed the legal and technical significance of drafting the statement of claim, considering it the foundational step in initiating judicial proceedings. It emphasized the following key aspects:

  • The theoretical framework: The formal and substantive requirements that must be satisfied in a statement of claim in accordance with the Civil Procedure Law.
  • The practical dimension: The essential skills a lawyer must possess in presenting and articulating the facts, as well as in legally characterizing them to ensure the sound progression of the judicial process.

This seminar was held in alignment with Sustainable Development Goal 16 (SDG 16): Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions—particularly with respect to strengthening the rule of law and ensuring equal access to justice. Sound legal drafting by lawyers constitutes a fundamental means of enabling individuals to effectively claim and protect their rights through efficient and accountable judicial institutions.
