First Year

Law 101 – Introduction to Law I

This course aims to introduce students to legal theory by studying the legal rule, its characteristics, and sources. It also covers the stages of law-making and various aspects of rights theory, enhancing legal awareness to provide a solid foundation for subsequent studies in law.

Law 113 – Constitutional Law

This course comprises two main scopes: the theory of constitution, constitution-making and modification, political systems, state authorities, and general rights. The second part discusses international human rights law, the European Human Rights Convention, enforcement mechanisms, and the role of political realities in promoting human rights.

Law 155 – Legal Terminology

The emphasis is placed on developing an understanding of English legal terminology throughout the study of law. The lecture will be conducted in the English language.

KUR 105 – Kurdology I

Kurdology is an essential discipline for residents of the Kurdistan Region. It examines the Kurdish regions, people, geography, philosophies, and religions through history and helps students understand the society they live in today.

Law 119 – Human Rights

This course helps students understand the rights enshrined in constitutions, international charters, and agreements such as the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the European Convention on Human Rights. Students will study essential rights like the right to life, education, and political rights.

Law 137 – Criminology

This fundamental course defines crime, analyzes its causes, and presents key theories explaining criminal behavior. It explores the psychological and social characteristics of criminals and methods of rehabilitation.

Law 160 – General English I

Students practice writing skills at the paragraph and essay levels with correct grammar. The course also develops listening and speaking skills, helping students express ideas in academic settings while learning about English-speaking cultures.

Law 115 – History of Law I

This course teaches how laws were enacted among ancient nations and the structure of their legal systems. It explores Roman law, family and property law, judicial systems, and the evolution of legal sources from divine rulings to codification.

ARB 101 – Arabic Language I

Students learn Arabic grammar, sentence construction, and essay writing, with practice sessions to improve fluency and confidence in speaking.

Second Year

Law 257 – General English

Designed to enhance students’ English proficiency across all skills, this course focuses on academic writing, grammar, listening, and speaking, fostering analytical and cultural understanding.

Law 201 – Civil Law (Obligations)

Covers the sources and types of obligations, contracts, liabilities, and the legal rules governing these relationships.

Law 203 – Penal Law I (General Part)

Defines penal law, its sources, and applications, including crime elements, criminal responsibility, and punishment principles.

Law 209 – Administrative Law and Judiciary I

Introduces administrative law, its nature, and functions. Topics include administrative centralization, oversight, employee duties, and termination procedures.

Law 211 – Commercial Law (General Part)

Examines commercial acts, traders’ legal duties, and unfair competition principles.

Law 243 – Constitutional Law: Theory of State and Political Systems

Explores the historical and philosophical foundations of constitutions, focusing on governance and state-citizen relationships.

Law 247 – Administrative Law in English

Studies administrative agencies, rulemaking, adjudication, and enforcement processes.

Law 239 – Islamic Jurisprudence and Principles

Examines methodologies for interpreting religious and legal texts, focusing on the principles that guide Islamic jurisprudence.
